A set of photo-etched seat harnesses for the ejection seats of a model of the Panavia Tornado GR.4 combat aircraft in 1:32 from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The STEEL designation refers to the steel version, that is to a material which, unlike brass, can be shaped into soft, naturally hanging folds and holds its shape better. The package contains no model and no seats, only a fret of belts. In 1:32 the belts are an absolutely dominant detail in an open cockpit, so replacing them is among the most effective small improvements there is.
The Panavia Tornado GR.4 was the British strike variant of the two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing. The cockpit is a tandem one with two ejection seats, which means two complete sets of harness straps. The real straps are woven, they have metal buckles, and in an unoccupied cockpit they hang loose over the edges of the seat; it is exactly that look that is hardest to imitate on a model and that etched steel handles best.
Separate the belts with a scalpel, not with nippers. Shape them carefully with your fingers or with a blunt tool over a rounded edge; steel takes a bend and a light wave, but repeated bending back and forth tires it and breaks it. Bond with cyanoacrylate glue in an absolutely minimal amount, so that any printing is not damaged. Belts look most natural laid over the backrest and the cushion with a slight sag, not pulled taut like a string. If the parts are printed, do not cover the printing with a varnish containing an aggressive solvent.
The accessory is supplied unassembled. The kit, the seats, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
