This resin accessory represents the airfield tow bar with which the Su-27 fighter is moved around the apron by a tug. It is not a model of an airplane nor a part of one, but an item of ground equipment that will give a scene both scale and a story. In 1:48 scale it is a thin but strongly shaped structure where a resin casting pays off: it holds crisp edges and the detail of the fittings, which would look soft in plastic.
A tow bar links the nose landing gear of the aircraft with the towing vehicle. At one end it has a fitting matching the particular type of aircraft, at the other an eye for hooking up to the tug. Without it a model simply stands on the apron; with it a legible situation arises, that is the machine being moved off the ramp or being prepared for flight. The Su-27 is a heavy twin-engined fighter and its ground crews used sturdy equipment, which shows in the shape of the bar.
Wash the casting in warm soapy water and cut the casting blocks away with a fine-bladed saw; support the thin sections with your fingers so that they do not bend. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate and reinforce the joints with a wire pin if need be. Before painting, check dry that the bar reaches the nose landing gear of the model in the position you are planning. Ground equipment tends to be strongly colored, yellow, red or metallic, and above all worn, so it is worth suggesting scuffed places with silver paint and dusting the lower part with pigment. A contrasting accessory beside a gray aircraft brings a diorama noticeably to life.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not a kit of the aircraft; glue and paints are not included in the package.
