A set of photo-etched metal parts for a model of the Stearman Kaydet trainer biplane in 1:32 scale, in the PT-13 and N2S-2 and N2S-5 forms.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Stearman Kaydet is an American trainer biplane on which whole cohorts of pilots learned to fly during the Second World War. It has two open cockpits in tandem, a fixed undercarriage and exposed internal structure, so there is nowhere on the model to hide inaccuracy. The PT-13 designation was carried by army air force machines and N2S by navy machines; the name of the item covers both branches.
Etched metal is thin to a few tenths of a millimeter, so it can stand in for the parts that in reality are made from sheet or flat bar: seat belts, instrument panels, fittings and other small items. In 1:32 scale the reward is that you can look at the open cockpit from close up. The scope of the set and the kit it is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions, so go through them before you start reworking the plastic.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than with cutters, and sand the remaining stub down. Fold them over the edge of a metal rule or in a bending tool, always in one movement; folding back and forth fatigues the metal and the part cracks. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and apply a thin base coat, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Dose the glue as a small drop on the tip of a toothpick, so that it does not wick across the face of the part.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
