The designation Pzgr.Patr.39 belongs to a German armor-piercing round of 7.5 cm caliber from the Second World War. The abbreviation Patr. means that it is a complete fixed round, that is, a projectile joined to its case. It was fired by the KwK 40 guns carried by Panzer IV tanks and by the StuK 40 guns in assault guns. The figures L/43 and L/48 in the designation are not the caliber but the length of the barrel expressed in multiples of the caliber; the longer barrel gave the projectile a higher muzzle velocity while the round itself stayed the same, which is why both versions are given together.
Ammunition is a rewarding detail because it tells a story on its own. The rounds can be stacked in a rack inside an open vehicle, leaned against a crate on the engine deck, passed from hand to hand by a figure of a loader or left lying on the floor of a diorama scene. In 1:35 scale they are clearly visible and a viewer immediately connects the vehicle with its gun.
Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest off so that the round stands upright. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and degrease them, otherwise the paint will not hold. The case takes a metallic sheen, which can be brought out with a metallic paint and gentle polishing, while the projectile stays matte; a light dark glaze in the transition between them separates the two. What to glue the parts with depends on their material and is stated in the manufacturer's instructions; the same goes for the number of pieces in the package.
