A billboard with the text Lichtspiele in 1:35 scale from MAiM: a cinema advertising board with a German inscription for the street scenes of dioramas.
Responsibility details are not available.
This advertising board (Werbetafel) with the German inscription Lichtspiele from the manufacturer MAiM brings a piece of period urban culture into 1:35 scale. Lichtspiele is an older German term for a cinema, literally light plays, and that is exactly how picture houses were commonly described in German-speaking countries in the first half of the 20th century.
The board is ideal on the frontage of a town picture house, above the entrance of a hall or on a corner, where it tempts an audience in to a showing. It anchors a Central European urban scene superbly, whether a quiet prewar street or a dramatic ruin composition in which a battered cinema sign recalls the ordinary life that was lost. Combined with the other billboards of the MAiM range (trade offers, notice boards, opening hours) a complete, believable street appears.
Clean the casting and prime it. A cinema sign suits bolder, slightly more lavish colors, a dark base with light or gilded lettering. Keep the weathering restrained: faded areas, fine runs from the edges and dust along the bottom edge. In a ruin scene you can add chipping and hang the board at an angle.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
