This is a diorama accessory, not a model of equipment. The set holds scale models of commercial crates and boxes, that is the packaging in which food, drinks and ordinary goods were delivered and stored. The numeral in the name shows that this is the second set in the series, so it can be combined with other similar accessories to create a varied stock of packaging for one scene.
Boxes are among the most useful props of a diorama. Stacked at the gate of a store, on a ramp, in a yard, on the bed of a truck or on a cart, they explain at once what is going on in a scene and at the same time fill empty space. They also work well as a layer of height a figure can be sat on, or as an improvised counter or table. A heap stacked irregularly reads more vividly than a precisely aligned wall.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry, as otherwise the paint may not hold. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, with the drop carried on the point of a toothpick. Spray a primer before painting. Wood looks best when the base tone is broken up, that is lighter dry brushing on the edges, a darker wash into the joints and a few boards in a slightly different shade. Paper and cardboard packaging can be fine-tuned with a thin coat of heavily thinned paint, so that it reads as absorbent rather than plastic. If you tilt some of the boxes a little or leave a lid half open, the heap stops looking like a pressed block.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
