A sheet with the engraved non-slip pattern of so-called lentil plate in 1:35 scale. The pattern is made up of regularly spaced oval raised dots, which are rolled into real sheet so that the surface can be walked on safely even when wet. The product is not a kit but a material out of which a modeler cuts parts exactly to his own intention.
The lentil pattern is typical of the walking surfaces of commercial and military equipment, of the floors of beds and platforms, of steps, covers and service walkways. It also appears in industrial settings, so it suits workshop and station dioramas. Against plastic a metal sheet has one essential advantage: the relief is sharp, the spacing regular and the thickness minimal, so a finished surface looks like sheet metal rather than like a printed texture.
Cut it with a sharp knife along a metal ruler, and with larger parts draw the shape out first with a paper template. Sand the base on the model flat and press the sheet down until the cyanoacrylate glue has grabbed, or use an epoxy with a longer setting time, which allows the position to be corrected. Degrease the metal before painting and give it a base coat. The pattern comes out best when, once painted, the surface is gone over lightly with a dry brush in a lighter shade and a darkening wash is let into the hollows. Trodden places can be suggested with a fine polishing with graphite.
This is a detailing accessory, not a model in its own right. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
