About product

A barrel 150 mm StuH 43 for the early Sturmpanzer IV Brummbär in 1:35 - Aber

A turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber, made for the early production series of the German assault armored vehicle Sturmpanzer IV, nicknamed the Brummbär. The subject is the short howitzer of 150 mm designated the StuH 43. This is not a model of a vehicle but a detail accessory, which replaces the plastic barrel with an accurate metal part with a hollow muzzle.

The real subject

The Sturmpanzer IV came about on the chassis of the Panzer IV tank as a heavily armored assault gun for direct fire against fortifications and built-up areas. Early pieces differed from later ones in the shape of the armored superstructure, the mounting of the weapon and details of its attachment; that is exactly why manufacturers offer barrels in separate forms for early and for middle to late production. The howitzer of 150 mm with its short barrel fired a heavy projectile at a low muzzle velocity, which was enough to destroy buildings and field fortifications at short range.

Building and painting tips

Cut off the plastic barrel at the root, clean out the opening in the mantlet or the shield and push the metal part home. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and roughen the mating surfaces lightly; it is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay a base coat meant for metals onto the metal parts, or the paint will hold poorly. The hollow muzzle stands out when you darken it lightly from inside with a soot shade. Before buying and before gluing, check that your build matches the early production series: on later pieces both the mounting of the barrel and the shape of the cutout in the superstructure differ.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers of German vehicles of the Second World War in 1:35 scale
  • Builders of the early series of the assault armored vehicle Sturmpanzer IV
  • More experienced modelers working with metal accessories
  • Collectors who upgrade plastic kits

This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No, it is a detail accessory: a turned metal barrel as a replacement for the plastic part.

The early and the later production series of the Sturmpanzer IV differed in the superstructure and the mounting of the weapon, which is why the barrels are offered in two forms. This one is intended for early pieces.

The short German howitzer of 150 mm designated the StuH 43.

With cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); degrease the surfaces and roughen them lightly.
