A turned barrel for the SU-85 in 1:35 scale from Aber: a metal replacement for the barrel of the 85 mm gun. It is not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale for a model of the Soviet SU-85 tank destroyer, that is for a gun of eighty-five millimeters caliber. This is not a kit but a replacement for a plastic part. On this vehicle the barrel is the first thing the viewer notices, and the plastic part tends to be bent and to carry the trace of a mold seam. The metal version is straight, true and has an open muzzle.
The SU-85 came about by setting an anti-aircraft gun of eighty-five millimeters caliber into a fixed superstructure on the chassis of the T-34 tank. The Soviet army needed a weapon that could deal with the new German tanks, and until tanks with a turret and the same caliber arrived, this tank destroyer was the quickest answer available. Its low silhouette and fast chassis suited it for firing from a position and moving quickly to another place.
Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the turret as possible and drill the mating surface so that the pin of the metal barrel seats firmly but does not pass right through. Degrease the metal with alcohol and apply primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. It is glued with super glue, that is with cyanoacrylate, drop by drop. Fit the barrel only at the end of the build, so that it does not bend during handling, and check its axis by looking from the front while the glue sets.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
