The set Canopy And Wheels Paint Masks For F-16C/N is a sheet of stencils for the arch of the cockpit canopy and for the landing gear wheels of the Fighting Falcon in 1:48 scale. The target kit is Tamiya.
Responsibility details are not available.
The teardrop canopy of the F-16 is a single piece without dividing frames, which seemingly makes masking simpler. In reality that is exactly why every deviation on the arched frame and on the fixed windscreen is immediately visible, and straight tape cannot be laid onto a curved edge. The sheet contains shapes cut exactly to the curve and supplements them with discs for the wheels of the main and the nose landing gear. The cut is calculated for the Tamiya kit.
The letters after the type designation refer to two related forms of the machine. The F-16C is the single-seat combat version, while the F-16N came about for the US Navy as a lightened aircraft for air combat training. The naval machines had no gun and no full combat fit and wore striking finishes imitating foreign equipment. It is precisely these forms that are built most often of all the versions of the type today.
Paint the canopy as a loose part, before you join it to the fuselage. Seat the stencil for the arch in one movement, because repeated laying weakens the tack and the film then lifts on the curve. If you want to imitate the golden coating of the real glass, apply a thin layer of a translucent shade under the coat of the frame and watch that it stays transparent. Apply the discs for the wheels only to a finished rim and spray the ring at right angles from above.
In the package are the stencils alone.
