A resin figure in 1:35 scale from MIG Productions, the second item from the line devoted to members of the special forces of the US Navy. It is a standalone figure, not a kit of equipment; the casting is supplied unassembled and unpainted and before building it is cleaned of the mold release agent and rid of the casting blocks.
The special forces of the US Navy came into being in the 1960s, and their equipment differs from that of ordinary infantry in its looser composition. Light load-bearing webbing, individually assembled armament and often a non-standard head covering are typical features, which makes figures of this type a rewarding subject for modelers who want to bring a different silhouette than a uniformed soldier into a scene. Before painting it pays to compare the details of the equipment with period photographs and to choose the palette accordingly, whether greens and olive for the earlier period or desert tones for later deployments.
Before building, wash the resin castings with lukewarm water, dish soap and a brush to remove the remains of the mold release agent from the mold, otherwise the paint will hold badly. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter, never break them off, and sand wet with respiratory protection. The parts are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, or with epoxy on larger surfaces; ordinary glue for plastic does not work on resin. Fill the small gaps in the shoulders and the neck. Apply a thin primer before painting; both the flesh and the equipment are built up well in acrylic and refined with oil paints, which allow soft transitions. Finally bring out the details with a wash and with pigments on the footwear and the lower part of the equipment.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
