A diorama blank of a tree trunk 15 cm tall from the manufacturer MAiM. It is not a kit of a vehicle or an aircraft but a scenic accessory for finishing a base or a vignette. The manufacturer lists it in a universal scale, primarily matching 1:35, but thanks to the natural variability of the size of trees it will serve convincingly in neighboring scales as well, for instance 1:48 or 1:24. It is the second variant of shape in the range, so it can be combined with variant number 1 without visible repetition of shapes in a scene.
A bare trunk with no foliage is one of the most versatile natural elements: it serves as a solitary tree at the edge of a road, a broken tree in a wartime scene, dead wood in a post-apocalyptic landscape or as a natural support for a figure. A height of 15 cm matches a tree of roughly five meters in 1:35 scale; shortened, it easily becomes a stump or a trunk fallen across a road.
Wash and clean the casting up before painting, and sand any marks left by casting off with fine abrasive paper. After a coat of primer, let the texture of the bark come out with glazes of brown and gray tones, bring the edges out with a dry brush and add moss or dust at the foot of the trunk with pigments. Fine branches can be added from wire or suitable natural materials.
It is supplied as an unpainted casting to be cleaned up and painted. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
