A single resin figure in 1:35 scale from the maker CMK. The name gives one figure of an armed soldier, so this is an accessory that is added where a scene lacks scale and a human element: at the side of a vehicle, at an open hatch or on a base beside a finished model. A single figure has a different logic from a group set. The viewer has nothing to compare it with, but watches it close up, so the result is decided by the cleanness of the casting and by the face.
One figure means a small casting block and short preparation, which makes this figure a good first contact with resin figures. The procedure is the same as with larger sets even so: wash in lukewarm water with detergent because of the mold release agent, cut the block off with a fine-toothed saw a little way from the part and sand the remainder down. Scrape the parting line along the sides of the legs and arms with the edge of a scalpel. Resin is hard and brittle, so never straighten a thin barrel or strap by bending. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). If the figure stands on one leg or in a leaning pose, drill through the foot and glue a piece of wire into it to anchor the figure into a base.
With a single figure all the attention concentrates on the face. After the base color lay down the skin tone, shade the eye sockets, temples and the area under the chin with a brown glaze, and leave the lighter tone only on the forehead, cheekbones and nose. In 1:35 do not do the eyes as white sclera with an iris; a dark line under a magnifier comes off better. Paint the gun separately from the uniform: metal parts will take a dark base with careful burnishing of the edges, and a stock or a holster a different degree of sheen from the fabric. It is precisely the difference in sheen that does more for legibility than the choice of shade. Finally even the whole figure out with matte clear coat and the same dusty tint that the model or the base the figure belongs to has.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin casting. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
