1:35 WW2 U.S Dodge WC 4X4 Sagged wheel set w/ Snow chains

The real subject

The Dodge WC is a line of American light military vehicles with all-wheel drive that carried men, cargo, the wounded and light weapons during the Second World War. They were built in a great number of forms, from an open flatbed to an ambulance box, and served on every front the American army reached, including the places where the winters were hard and the roads broken up.

What the set offers

Replacement wheels for a model in 1:35 scale. The tires are shaped as weighted, that is flattened at the bottom, as though a real vehicle were standing on them. That loses the model the impression of hovering above the ground and makes it look heavy. With the wheels come snow chains, which the vehicle fitted on icy and snow-covered roads and which in themselves add texture to the surface. The exact number of wheels and the extent of the set are given in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.

Building and painting tips

The flattened part of a tire has to point toward the ground, as otherwise the whole impression disappears. Glue the wheels on only once the chassis is seated, therefore, and keep checking that the model is not resting on only three of them. The parts are not polystyrene, so join them with a small amount of cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down. Wash and degrease the wheels before painting. Set the chains apart in color from the rubber and leave the edges of the links that rub on the road lighter than the rest.
