About product

T-34/76 factory No. 112 — photo-etched fenders 1:35, Voyager Model

The photo-etched set from the Voyager Model brand replaces the plastic fenders of the Soviet T-34/76 medium tank in the version produced by factory number 112. Injection-molded plastic has to be many times thicker than the scale calls for because of the mold, whereas etched metal has a thickness close to reality, so the edges of the fenders look considerably more convincing on a finished model. As a rule the set also makes it possible to suggest bent or torn-off parts of the fenders, which is a common sight in photographs of machines in service.

The real subject

The T-34 was a Soviet medium tank with tracked running gear using Christie-type suspension, sloped armor and a diesel engine. The version designated T-34/76 carried a 76 mm gun. The vehicle was built in parallel by a number of factories and their products differed from one another in the shape of the turret, in the workshop execution of the welds, in the placement of the fuel tanks and in the solution of the fenders and of the tools on the hull. It is precisely these differences that decide which accessory set will fit a given model.

Building and painting tips

Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel or with photo-etch scissors on a hard surface, and make the bends in a photo-etch bender or between two blades, so that the edge is sharp and straight. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and more experienced modelers solder it. Before painting, degrease the metal and apply a primer intended for metal surfaces, otherwise the paint holds badly. Thin etched fenders will take a suggestion of bending and damage, which lends the model credibility. The original plastic fenders have to be cut off and the surface leveled before the metal parts are glued on. Assemble and paint the running gear before the fenders close off the access. Earth-toned washes and pigments applied from the bottom upward suit the weathering.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building Soviet armored vehicles in 1:35 scale
  • Those who want to replace overscale plastic fenders with metal of the right thickness
  • Modelers with experience of photo-etched parts, a bender and cyanoacrylate glue
  • Builders of dioramas where a damaged or bent fender is reckoned with

This is an accessory set, not a standalone model. The plastic kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. It is a photo-etched accessory that replaces the fenders on an already purchased plastic kit of the T-34/76 in 1:35 scale.

A scalpel or photo-etch scissors, a hard surface, tweezers and ideally a bender. Without a straight bend the long parts do not look good.

Yes. Apply a primer intended for metal surfaces onto degreased metal, otherwise the paint comes off during handling.

No. The fenders differ between the individual production factories and between kits, so check the match with your particular kit before buying.
