Responsibility details are not available.
Injection-molded plastic kit of a warship in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The subject is a guided missile destroyer of the PLA Navy with hull number 138. In this scale the model offers readable detail on the superstructure and makes a good basis for finishing off with photo-etched railings and finer antennas.
Taizhou is a destroyer of the improved export version of the Russian Sovremenny class, which China took over in the second half of the 2000s. The ship has the typical silhouette with a prominent funnel, gun turrets and the conspicuous launch canisters for anti-ship missiles along the sides of the superstructure. Compared with the original Russian version the stern was adapted for helicopter operations and the short-range defense fit was modernized. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject: the intricate superstructure and the great amount of equipment on deck leave room for detailing.
If the kit allows both options, decide in advance between a full hull on a stand and a waterline version set into a sea. Paint the deck and the sides of the hull separately and mask the transitions with tape. It is practical to build and paint the superstructure as a separate unit and join it to the hull only at the end. Fit the fine antennas, masts and launch canisters at the very end; photo-etched railings seat best on an already painted deck. A restrained dark wash brings out the divisions of the superstructure, and fine traces of rust at the anchors and the scuttles give the model its sense of scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
