Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of an anti-aircraft tower (Flakturm) in 1:350 scale from Takom. The subject is the combat tower (Gefechtsturm, G-Tower) of the first Berlin flak complex at the Zoo. It is not a model of a vehicle or a ship but of a structure — a massive concrete defensive tower. The set holds photo-etched parts and parts of the anti-aircraft guns; the finished model has a side of over 21 cm and a height of around 11 cm.
The flak towers (Flaktürme) were giant reinforced concrete structures that protected German cities from air raids in World War II. The Berlin complex at the Zoo was made up of a combat tower (G-Tower) with heavy anti-aircraft guns on the roof and a lower command tower (L-Tower). The towers also served as air raid shelters for thousands of people and their meter-thick walls withstood bombing. Because of their massiveness they were only with difficulty removable after the war.
The large concrete surfaces invite you to give the surface texture — imitate concrete with a light gray base, fine graining, and shade the coats of the walls with glazes and washes. Imprints of the formwork and traces of running water will add realism. Glue the photo-etched parts and the guns with cyanoacrylate glue. The model is excellently suited as the basis of a diorama with anti-aircraft defense.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
