The set holds a scaled-down version of the modern single-shot Panzerfaust 3 antitank weapon in 1:35 scale. It is neither a model of a vehicle nor a figure, but an accessory meant for completing infantry figures, the interiors of armored personnel carriers and diorama scenes. It is exactly such small things that give a scene scale and a place in time, because the weapon dates a scene unambiguously to the present.
The Panzerfaust 3 is a German antitank weapon taken into service at the beginning of the 1990s as a successor to older single-shot means. It consists of a launching tube with the munition and of a reusable sighting and firing unit. It works on the counter-mass principle, so the weapon has no classic recoil and can be fired even from confined spaces. The round carries a shaped charge warhead, and newer versions a tandem arrangement against reactive armor. The weapon is in the armament of the German army and of a number of other European users, so it appears in scenes set in the last three decades.
Cut the parts off carefully, as the tube is slender and a bend or a lean shows in a finished scene. Degrease the surface before painting and apply a thin undercoat, so that the fine edges stay legible. The weapon is usually painted in a matte olive or gray-green form; credibility is helped by a darker wash into the details and a light lift of the edges with a dry brush. If you put the weapon into a figure's hand or on a shoulder, try the seating dry - the position of the shoulder rest and of the figure's head has to match, as otherwise the scene looks forced. Use super glue to join it to a figure or an interior.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Figures, a kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
