Responsibility details are not available.
Plastic kit of the Soviet flotilla leader Tashkent in her 1940 form, 1:350 scale, from Trumpeter. The slender hull and low superstructures give the model an unmistakably elegant look.
Tashkent was a flotilla leader built for the Soviet Navy in an Italian shipyard, and her Italian origin shows in her graceful lines and in the emphasis on speed, which made her one of the fastest ships of her category in the world. The bluish tone of her paintwork earned her the nickname blue cruiser. Her main armament consisted of 130 mm guns complemented by anti-aircraft weapons and torpedo tube mounts. During the war she served with the Black Sea Fleet, became famous for supply runs into besieged Sevastopol, and in 1942 German aircraft sank her at Novorossiysk.
Paint the hull and the decks before you fit the small parts of the superstructures. The characteristic light blue-gray shade comes out best over a lightly pre-shaded base; a light wash brings the vertical surfaces to life. The masts and yards call for careful alignment to the drawing, and the rigging can be added with taut elastic thread. Photo-etched railings lift the model markedly, and if none are in the box, reach for a universal set for 1:350.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
