A collector's kit of the American river ironclad ram USS Choctaw of 1863 in 1:350 scale from the Czech small maker ROP o.s. The model combines resin parts with photo-etched items, so it is a kit for more experienced modelers. Being a limited release from a cottage manufacturer, it offers an unusual subject that you will not find from the big brands. The exact number of parts and the package contents are given in the instructions enclosed in the box.
USS Choctaw was a sidewheel ironclad of the Union Navy during the American Civil War. Originally a merchant steamer, she was converted into an armored ram gunboat armed with heavy guns and sent to operate on the rivers of the Confederacy. Ships of this type played a key role in the fight for control of the river routes, above all on the Mississippi: their armor and firepower made them feared, if slow and unwieldy, opponents.
First wash the mold release residue off the resin parts and cut off the casting blocks; protect your airways when sanding. Glue the resin and the photo-etched items with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Treat the hull and the superstructures separately, and fit the thin photo-etched parts, the railings and the fine details, at the end. The model looks best on a small stand or in a small stretch of river water; patina of rust and river mud will underline its period character.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
