The pair of numbers in the designation describes the outside and the inside diameter, so a wall thickness of one tenth of a millimeter follows directly from them. It is precisely that small value that is the reason drawn brass is reached for where a plastic equivalent would look coarse: the end of the part forms a fine ring that stands up to close inspection when enlarged.
The metal moreover holds its shape and does not spring back. It therefore suits antenna masts, air-data probes, hydraulic lines, small axles of moving parts, small gun barrels and anywhere a thin element is to stay straight even after years in a display cabinet. The tube can be soldered, a pin can be drilled through it, and the surface can be roughened before painting so that the primer takes hold.
Dividing such thin-walled material with pliers is a sure way to squash the end into an oval. A cutting disc in a rotary tool or a fine saw does a better job, after which the bore is cleared with a drill of the same diameter. Before gluing it into a plastic part it pays to roughen the end or to flare it slightly, because smooth polished brass holds in adhesive considerably less well.
When storing it, take care that a long piece is not left lying over the edge of a table. Thin-walled brass slowly bends under its own weight, and straightening it back into a perfectly straight line is practically impossible.
