About product

The quarter round with a 2.5 mm radius

This shape solves a single but very annoying situation: the meeting of two walls at a right angle. Real welded and pressed structures have a rounding in the corner, whereas a model has a sharp gap into which paint runs as well. A quarter-round strip glued in fills the corner and gives it a radius that looks credible in a photograph.

The fitting procedure

First check by dry fitting that both surfaces meet without play: the strip is meant to cover a shape, not to hide inaccurate building. Apply thin glue by capillary action along the edge and the material will draw itself under the profile. Glue longer stretches in sections and hold them until the joint sets. The junction of two strips in a corner is solved with a cut at forty-five degrees; once sanded, the joint will not be noticeable.

Where a rounded corner comes in useful

It comes into its own in vehicle and cab interiors, on decks, at the bases of buildings, in the transition from the side to the bottom of a tank, and wherever a large-area weld needs to be suggested. It serves equally well for hiding the joint between two parts you have made yourself.

The profile comes in bare white with no paint; you create the final surface yourself.

Painting and checking the shape

Before you start gluing, compare the radius with the real subject in a photograph. Too large a rounding looks soft and reveals that it is an added element, whereas a correctly chosen size merges with its surroundings. Once the glue has dried, run a fine sanding sponge over the transition and only then apply the primer; paint holds differently in a hollow than on a flat surface and easily builds up in it.

Against classic filling, this procedure has one essential advantage: nothing shrinks, nothing cracks and you do not have to wait for a filler to cure.

FAQ

Cut both ends at forty-five degrees, ideally in a simple cutting jig. A small inaccuracy is made good by a drop of glue and sanding with a sponge.

Yes, turned over it glues on as a convex trim or a leading edge. Keep it pressed down, because it is harder to fix on an outer edge.

If one is left, a drop of thin putty will close it and a pass with a fine abrasive after drying will finish it. A level surface then takes paint without stains.
