QMT 1:48 Aichi B7A2 Grace — wheel bay masks is a self-adhesive masking set for spraying. It serves to cover the wheel bays while the model is painted; it is not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set from the QMT brand in 1:48 scale for the Aichi B7A2 carrier-based bomber, known under the Allied code name Grace. This is a modeling accessory for painting, not a model of the aircraft: self-adhesive, pre-cut shapes that protect the area of the wheel bays during spraying.
A mask of this kind comes into play in the middle of the painting procedure, and the order of the steps matters more with it than with canopy masks. First finish the inside of the bay, including the shading and any weathering, and let it cure. Only then put the mask in, move on to the filler primer and the lower shade of the wing and the fuselage, and finally to the upper colors. Anyone who reverses the order and masks only after the camouflage usually ends up touching up by brush in the place that is most visible when the model is seen from below.
A flat mask need not fill a deeper cavity completely; feel free to fill the free space under it with a piece of foam or with damp cotton wool, so that no mist from the airbrush gets inside. Press the edge of the mask down with a blunt tool, and on rounded transitions work in small sections. Apply the paint in several goes and let it flash off between the coats, because a heavy wet coat is the easiest of all to creep under the edge.
The package contains masks only. The model, the paints and the glue are not in it.
