An extensive decal sheet for the Boeing CH-47 Chinook tandem-rotor helicopter. Seventeen machines of four armed forces, from American F versions through Canadian and Australian aircraft to a British anniversary finish.
Responsibility details are not available.
A tandem layout does away with a tail rotor and sends all the power of both engines into the lifting blades. The result is a machine that can carry a load comparable to its own empty weight and can still touch the ground with its rear ramp alone. The type first flew at the start of the 1960s and is still in production, which makes it one of the longest-produced helicopters of all.
Seventeen options in one package means the sheet will cover more models than most builders will ever build. At the same time it makes it possible to compare how differently four armed forces interpret the same type: the American aircraft are restrained, the Canadian ones carry lettering on the nose, while the British anniversary finish is markedly decorative.
Large decals on the curved surfaces of the fuselage call for a softener, otherwise the film will lift at the transition between a flat wall and a curve. It also helps to divide long lettering into shorter sections. A kit of the helicopter is not part of the delivery.
