A set of self-adhesive vinyl masks in 1:48 scale for models of the single-seat Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet carrier aircraft. It is not a kit — the set serves as an accessory at the moment a model under construction is being prepared for painting. The vinyl is pliable, seats well on the domed cockpit canopy and leaves no adhesive on the transparent part when removed. Furball Aero-Design is an American maker of accessories focused on the aviation of the US Navy. It is based on the dimensions of the Hasegawa kit.
The Super Hornet is an enlarged and structurally reworked successor to the original Hornet. It has a larger wing, angular air intakes and more powerful engines, thanks to which both its range and its weapon load grew. The F/A-18E version is single-seat; the two-seat variant carries the designation F/A-18F. The operational finish is typically low-visibility in gray shades, so a sharp and clean cockpit frame is among the few prominent details that hold a model together visually.
The removal stage is the crucial one. Leave the mask in place only until the paint has set — if it cures completely, the edge of the finish may come away with it as it is peeled. Lift it with tweezers slowly and at an angle back over itself, never by a sharp tug straight up. Before applying it, degrease the glazing with alcohol and let it dry; grease from the fingers is the most common cause of a mask lifting during spraying. Apply the paint in thin coats; one heavy coat will build a step at the edge that shows even under matte clear.
This is an add-on set for a kit you already own. The Hasegawa base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
