Star Decals 1:35 Vietnam Gun Trucks, part five is a decal set for escort trucks with a quad machine gun mount, this time with the names FREEDOM FIGHTERS and MAD MAN.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Star Decals line devoted to gun trucks continues with two more named vehicles. The name gives the nicknames FREEDOM FIGHTERS and MAD MAN and the type of armament, that is a quad mount of .50 caliber machine guns. The item is a decal set for a model in 1:35 scale; the vehicle itself the modeler builds from another kit.
The escort vehicles usually ran in the middle and at the end of a column, where they could intervene quickly. The crew was small, well drilled and spent months with its vehicle, which is one of the reasons why naming and decoration spread so widely: the vehicle became the badge of a particular group of people. The armor grew step by step, plate by plate, according to what could be found, so two apparently identical vehicles differed in the height of their sides, in the placement of the weapon and in the shape of the firing ports. The lettering was painted over, added to and moved as the machine was modified.
Because this is hand-painted marking on a rough surface, it pays to place the decal on an area without transitions and edges. Prepare the base with gloss varnish, let it dry thoroughly and then even the surface out with a matte varnish. Lay flaking paint, rubbing and dust from the red earth over fixed markings, not under them.
The paints, the varnishes and the model itself are not included in the package.
