The Beaufighter came about as a heavy twin-engine fighter with a crew of two and two Bristol Hercules radial engines. The heavy armament concentrated in the nose soon made it a machine for night fighting and for attacks on ships and ground targets, to which bombs and rockets were added. The designation Mk. 21 belongs to the version built in Australia for the air force there; it was committed in the Pacific theater, where strikes on vessels and ground positions made up the main part of its service. Anyone building a Beaufighter will appreciate that it is an aircraft with a very recognizable silhouette: a thick fuselage, engines set well out from the centerline and a cockpit moved forward.

The sheet is a classic wet decal. Cut the subject out as closely as you can, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and wait until it releases from the backing paper. Apply it onto smooth gloss varnish. Large elements on the fuselage deserve more water under the film so that they can be nudged into place, followed by careful pushing out of the bubbles from the center toward the edges. A decal softener settles the decal into engraved lines, and once it has dried a covering coat of varnish follows.
