A turned barrel for the British 57 mm 6-pounder Mk.V gun in 1:48 scale from Aber. A metal replacement for the plastic barrel on models of the Centaur and Cromwell tanks.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a turned metal barrel in 1:48 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It replaces the plastic barrel of the British quick-firing 57 mm 6-pounder gun in the Mk.V variant on models of the Centaur and Cromwell tanks. It is not a model of a tank but a detail accessory for a more faithful build.
The Mk.V variant was the later version of the British 57 mm 6-pounder gun with a markedly longer barrel than the Mk.III. The longer barrel meant a higher muzzle velocity and better penetrating power, and it is at the same time the most noticeable external difference between the two variants. The gun was carried by the early Cromwell and Centaur cruiser tanks, where the length of the barrel helps to pin down a particular machine.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the mantlet, level the pin and try it dry to see whether the metal part sits on the axis. Degrease the metal, roughen it slightly and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue. Unlike plastic, a long turned barrel is perfectly straight and does not warp, which shows up most on this gun. Use a base coat for metals before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface and rubs off while the model is handled.
This is a detail set, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
