Hauler 1:48 British universal carrier FENDERS is a photo-etched set of fenders for a plastic kit of the British tracked Universal Carrier in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of photo-etched fenders from the Czech maker Hauler, cut for the Tamiya kit. It is an accessory, not a model: it replaces the plastic fenders with a thin metal sheet that has the right thickness and, above all, can be shaped.
A fender on the vehicle is a flat sheet a few millimeters thick. Reduced to 1:48 that leaves a hundredth of a millimeter, which an injection mold cannot manage, so a plastic part is many times thicker than it should be and its edge is conspicuous seen from the side. Photo-etched sheet keeps that proportion far closer to reality, so the vehicle stops looking burdened.
A metal fender has one further advantage over plastic: it can be bent, dented and set askew. On the real vehicles the fenders were exposed to everything, as branches, cargo and other hardware ran into them, so a slight rippling or a torn-off corner looks more credible than a perfect plane. Do the deformation carefully over a round handle or over a piece of round stock, and only roll the edge over lightly; metal will take one shaping stroke, whereas repeated bending will tire it. Cut the original plastic parts off and level the area left behind. It is glued with cyanoacrylate in drops; before the glue sets you have a few seconds to level it. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and spray it with primer. Mud and dust are then done excellently on fenders, as they are the places where dirt holds most.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
