This is a set of decals in 1:48 scale, not a kit. The theme is a less usual chapter of the type: the British de Havilland Mosquito operated by American units. To use it you need a matching model of the Mosquito in the same scale; neither that nor paints are included in the package. The versions of the Mosquito differ markedly, so compare the contents of the sheet with the source material for the machine you are building.
The de Havilland Mosquito was a British twin-engine aircraft with a wooden airframe, which gave it low weight and high speed. It came about in many forms - bomber, fighter, night fighter and reconnaissance. The American units operating from Britain made use above all of the photo-reconnaissance and weather machines, because the Mosquito could fly high and fast and needed no escort. The markings of these aircraft combined American national insignia with the British origin of the airframe, which makes them a visually untypical and, among modelers, a rewarding theme.
Decals age. The carrier film grows brittle over the years and breaks while being soaked, and on older sheets it sometimes turns yellow as well. Before you use the set, look the sheet over against the light: a network of fine cracks in the film is a warning. The remedy is simple and reliable - spray the whole sheet with a thin coat of clear varnish from a can, let it dry for a day and only then cut the decals out. The varnish makes a new continuous carrier and the decal will not fall apart. In that case cut right up to the motif, because a varnished sheet now forms one whole. Yellowing of the film usually goes away after a few days in daylight.
It is an accessory, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
