1:48 F-86D Sabre Dog, canopy mask for the domed hinged canopy of the American interceptor with a radar in the nose.
Responsibility details are not available.
Shaped masks cover the cockpit glazing of the American interceptor. They seat on the domed surfaces of the canopy and on the frame of the windscreen and save the time that would otherwise go on measuring out.
The Sabre Dog was the single-seat variant for combat in any weather. A radar housing was added above the air intake, a retractable launcher with unguided rockets inside the fuselage and an engine with an afterburner at the rear. The classic guns in the nose, by contrast, disappeared completely; the attack was to be directed by the onboard radar and the guidance system. It was the most numerously built version of the whole Sabre family and it flew with air forces outside the United States as well. It reached the units at a time when fighter aviation was starting to be expected to find a target in the dark and in cloud, and the spread of the ground-controlled guidance system matched that.
The hinged canopy has a heavier rim than the fighter version and a longer transition into the spine of the fuselage. Seat the pieces dry, check the fit and only then press them down for good. Spray the inner sides of the frames in the cockpit shade beforehand, so that light plastic does not look out through the glass once the mask comes off. Before you start, lay the pieces out in the order in which you will fit them.
