The kit covers the small experimental WNF 342 helicopter, technically one of the most interesting dead ends of early rotorcraft. It is a short-run injection-molded kit from AMP, that is, a model for a modeler who enjoys untypical subjects and does not mind hand-tuning the parts. The exact contents of the package differ between these editions and are stated on the box.
The machine was created in the first half of the 1940s at Wiener Neustädter Flugzeugwerke and carried the name of the designer Friedrich von Doblhoff. Its fundamental difference was the drive of the main rotor: instead of the classic transfer of torque from the engine, a compressed mixture was fed through hollow blades to their tips, where it was burned. The rotor therefore exerted no reaction torque on the fuselage and the machine in principle did not need a tail rotor in the usual way. Only a few prototypes were built and series production never came about. The idea of driving a rotor with jets at the blade tips, however, kept coming back to engineers long after the war.
The model is small, so the result is decided by the cleanliness of the surface and the accuracy of the thin parts. Dry-fit the frame, the struts and the rotor head and glue them in stages, so that they do not warp. Apply the primer in a thin coat and degrease the surface carefully before the finish. Paint the rotor blades separately and fit them at the very end. For presentation, a simple base suits well and visually grounds a small model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
