A double-sided mask for the glazed nose and one complete set of national insignia for the Dornier Do 17Z in 1:48 scale. The measurement is taken from the Classic Airframes kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Dornier Do 17 got its nickname from its slim fuselage, but the Z version contradicted it. So that the crew would fit together and could help each other when hit, the nose was deepened and glazed all over into a bulbous shape. One of the most characteristic greenhouses of the Second World War thus came about, and at the same time a nightmare for anybody who wants to spray it.
The difference against an ordinary cockpit is not in the number of fields but in their curvature. The panes of the front part lie in a double curve and a strip of tape puckers on them into a fan, so the edge of the frame comes out wavy. A pre-cut piece, on the contrary, is punched out exactly to the shape of the field and when pressed down it adapts. On this particular machine that is the main reason to buy the set, and it is a reason of substance, not of convenience.
The glazing is covered from the outside and the inside, supplemented by one set of national marks for spraying. Inner covering carries more weight on a glazed nose than on fighters, because through such an area the cockpit is visible from every angle. Models where the frames are bare on the inside you will spot at first glance.
For a more advanced builder. Work field by field and between them let the film settle for a moment; when working with a bulbous surface the edges otherwise lift. It also helps to raise the pressure in the spray slightly and to spray square to the surface, because paint led from a sharp angle likes to blow under the edge of the film at a curved pane and leaves a smeared run underneath it.
