A set of accurately shaped self-adhesive painting masks of fine Japanese washi tape (kabuki masks) for a plastic model of the supersonic Lockheed F-104 Starfighter in 1:48 scale. This is neither a model nor an aircraft part but an aid for spraying the glazing and further areas cleanly. The ADVANCED version is the middle level of the set: besides the outer canopy masks it also holds masks for the glazing frame sealant, and further the other clear parts and the wheels.

The real subject

The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was an American single-engine supersonic fighter and interceptor of the 1950s with a very thin, short straight wing. It was capable of high speeds and a high rate of climb and in many versions it served with a number of air forces around the world.

How to use the masks

• Clean and degrease the clear parts and seat the mask exactly on the glazing frames.
• Press the edges down firmly so that paint cannot get underneath, then spray with an airbrush or a spray can.
• Apply thin coats and take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried.
