A set of masking stencils for a model of the American F-14D carrier-based fighter in 1:48 scale. It makes spraying crisp transitions easier with no slow trimming of tape.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-14 was an American carrier-based fighter with a crew of two and a variable-geometry wing that swept back in flight according to speed. The F-14D version was the last and most modern form of the type: it was given new engines and digital equipment. Its canopy glazing is extensive and much divided, so masking by hand takes more time than the spraying itself.
The stencils are cut to the shape of the glazing frames and other surfaces of the model in 1:48 scale, so measuring and trimming tape are avoided. The extent of the set, that is, which surfaces it covers and which kit it is cut for, is given in the instructions enclosed in the package; follow them when laying the stencils on, too, because the order affects the result.
Masking decides how the glazing will look, and a mistake is harder to put right than an oversprayed surface. It is therefore worth taking the time to lay the stencils on and press the edges down.
The set of stencils is supplied on its own. The aircraft model, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
