This is not an aircraft model but a separate accessory for one. The set from LP Models contains, according to its name, a boarding ladder with which to complete a model of the F-86 in the D or K version in 1:48 scale that has already been built. What the accessory is for

A ladder placed at the cockpit immediately changes the feel of a model: an aircraft in a display case becomes an aircraft on the flight line between sorties. It works best in combination with an open canopy, or with a figure of a pilot or ground crew. It serves just as well on a diorama with an airfield surface, where it gives the scene scale and action.

The real subject

The F-86D was a single-seat interceptor derived from the Sabre which differed from the day fighter version above all in its nose section with radar. The F-86K was a variant intended for European users within NATO with different armament. The cockpit of both versions is high above the ground, so a portable ladder of the kind this set renders was used for the pilot to climb aboard.

Building and painting tips

First wash the resin castings in lukewarm water with detergent to remove any remaining mold release agent, otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, never break them. Sand the surfaces smooth and protect your airways while sanding, ideally sanding wet. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate glue, because ordinary glue for polystyrene does not work on resin. Apply a primer before painting, then a dark base, and bring the steps and handrails to life with a dry brush and a light wash so that the structure stands out.
