A photo-etched metal set in 1:48 scale for a model of the German Jagdpanther tank destroyer, designated Sd.Kfz. 173. The thin etched sheet replaces those features of the model that injection-molded plastic cannot render finely enough, that is above all the covers and mesh of the engine compartment, the edges of the fenders, brackets and tool clamps and other small sheet-metal details. The broad flat surfaces of the Jagdpanther give a lot away, so the investment in photo-etch pays off on this vehicle. It is not a kit but an accessory to a model you buy separately.
The Jagdpanther was built on the chassis of the Panther tank and combined thick sloped frontal armor with an 88 mm anti-tank gun in a fixed superstructure. Series production began in 1944 and only a few hundred were built in all, so the vehicle was rare in numbers but regarded in combat as one of the most successful German tank destroyers. The combination of the good mobility of the Panther chassis and the penetrating power of the 88 mm gun made it a dangerous opponent at longer ranges, while its weak point remained the unreliability of the transmission.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard mat, not with nippers, which deform the sheet. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades, and on longer edges work slowly and evenly. Degrease the brass before gluing, use cyanoacrylate glue, and on loaded joints micro-soldering helps as well. Lay down a base coat intended for metal before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the etched parts and will peel off while the model is handled. The set is meant for more advanced modelers who already have experience with photo-etch.
This is a detail accessory for your own model, not a complete kit of a vehicle. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
