The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American carrier fighter with a variable-sweep wing and a crew of two seated in tandem. From aircraft carriers it provided air superiority and escort for formations, and later it served in reconnaissance and strike roles too. The F-14D version represents the last development stage of the type and can be told from the early machines among other things by differently shaped exhaust nozzles, which is exactly the part builders often improve on models.
The set replaces the exhaust nozzles on a model of the F-14D in 1:48 scale and offers them in both the open and the closed position. The builder therefore chooses how the rear of the machine will look on the finished model and does not have to buy two separate sets. Which position your machine should have is to be judged from photographs of the particular aircraft and from the situation the model captures. Which kit the nozzles are drawn for is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging and in the instructions.
The parts are not polystyrene and plastic cement has no effect on them. Use super glue or a two-part adhesive and degrease the glued surfaces before joining. Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the remainder down so that the circular outline is preserved. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let them dry. Seat the nozzles in line with the fuselage and check that both protrude equally. Choose the shades and the amount of soiling according to photographs of the real subject and apply them in thin coats.
The package contains the replacement parts named. A kit, paints, glue and thinner are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
