This set does not serve for masking glazing but for spraying the markings: it contains pre-cut kabuki paper masks for the national insignia and the supplementary markings of a model of the Heinkel He 111 in the H-20 subversion, in 1:48 scale. It is tied to one particular camouflage scheme, designated in the name as scheme 1 with an attachment to the unit EKdo 16. The exact scope of the sheet cannot be deduced from the name and it is not stated here.
A decal lies on the surface and brings a carrier film with it, which on matte camouflage often shows through as a glossy outline. A sprayed marking has no film, it is part of the paint and it will take subsequent weathering and sanding just like the surrounding area. With large insignia on the fuselage and the wing the difference is visible at first glance, especially when the model has a prominent structure of panel lines.
The area under the insignia has to be smooth and varnished with a gloss coat, so that the mask seats and the paint does not seep under into the structure. Lay the mask onto fully cured varnish, not onto fresh varnish. With multicolor insignia you proceed in layers: the lighter base first, then once it has dried the next mask is laid on and the darker part is sprayed. Apply the paint very thinly and preferably in several goes, because a heavy coat creates a noticeable step at the edge of the insignia. Lift the mask as soon as the varnish has flashed off.
The package contains masks only. The kit, the paints, the glue and the decals are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
