An injection-molded plastic kit of the British fighter Hawker Hurricane Mk.I in its tropical (trop) configuration, in 1:48 scale from Arma Hobby. The kit comes from a new mold and offers fine surface detail along with an elaborate cockpit. A hallmark of the tropical version is the Vokes anti-dust air filter under the nose, which protected the engine in desert conditions.
The Hawker Hurricane, together with the Spitfire, was a key fighter of the Royal Air Force at the start of the Second World War and bore the brunt of the fighting during the Battle of Britain. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine, and its armament consisted of eight 7.7 mm machine guns in the wings. The fuselage was built around a fabric- and metal-covered tube frame. The tropical Mk.I with the Vokes filter was deployed in North Africa, the Mediterranean, and Malta, where it fought in the demanding conditions of heat, dust, and sand.
Join the parts with thin liquid plastic cement, and treat the surface with a primer before painting. Apply paint with an airbrush in thin coats; desert aircraft usually carried an upper camouflage of sand and brown shades over blue-gray undersides. It pays to mask the cockpit glazing, highlight panel lines with a wash, and finish the surface with a matte varnish and light weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
