This item is not a kit of the tank but a partial photo-etched set for a model you obtain separately. It holds side skirts for the kit of the Japanese Type 10 tank in 1:48 scale from the Tamiya brand. It is made by the Czech brand Hauler.
On modern tanks the side skirts are a large flat area visible in profile, that is, from the angle at which a model is most often photographed and displayed. In injection-molded plastic they necessarily come out thick, and their upper and lower edges then look like a plate rather than a panel. Photo-etched sheet has a thickness correct for the scale, so the edge disappears and the panel comes optically level with the rest of the sheet metal on the vehicle. A bonus is that it can be shaped: you can bow the metal slightly or fold an individual segment out or leave it off, which looks credible on a vehicle in the field.
Separate the part with a scalpel on a hard surface and sand the fret tab remnant down with a needle file. Make long straight bends in a photo-etch bender, or else clamp the part between a metal ruler and a surface and bend it along its whole length at once, or a wave will arise. Always bend away from the etched line. A stiffer piece can be annealed briefly over a flame before bending; it softens and does not crack. Degrease with spirit before gluing, and glue with super glue in small sections. Settle the panels by the lower edge of the hull, so that they keep one line, and only then glue the brackets on. A primer for metal is a necessity, or the paint will peel off while the model is handled.
The Type 10 is a Japanese main battle tank taken into the service of the ground forces in 2012. It carries a 120 mm smoothbore gun, has modular armor allowing the level of protection to be changed according to the task, and hydropneumatic suspension. The design puts an emphasis on lower weight for the sake of transportability over the Japanese road network.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
