The set brings resin parts for converting an open light cross-country car into a version with a closed box body. It is not a kit of the vehicle: you need to buy the basic plastic model separately and the conversion changes the rear part of its bodywork.
The chassis of the light cross-country car served during the war as the basis for a whole family of derived bodies. The Typ 21 belonged to the box-bodied versions, in which a closed box replaced the open bed; such cars were used for signals, ambulance, workshop and transport duties, where the load had to be protected from the weather. The mechanicals and the chassis stayed common with the open version.
In terms of visibility this is the most effective type of conversion on a small vehicle: the box body makes up most of the volume of the car, so after the conversion you have an obviously different automobile on the table, not merely a differently equipped one. At the same time you get a large smooth area on the sides, which is ideal for markings, numbers and lettering, and for a modeler who likes working with decals and patina it is an extra canvas. The drawback is the mirror image: a large flat area forgives nothing, and every imperfectly sanded seam or ripple left by filler shows on it. If sanding and polishing is not your idea of fun, choose a conversion that changes smaller equipment instead.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and cut the casting blocks off with a saw. Flat areas are sanded wet on a flat backing, with respiratory protection: sanding a large wall by hand without a backing will make it wavy. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Before painting, apply a uniform primer that reveals the transitions between plastic and resin; only then go on to the color and the decals.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
