The Mitsubishi F-2 is a Japanese multi-role combat aircraft derived from the American F-16, developed jointly by the Japanese and American sides. Against its basis it has a markedly larger wing area with extensive use of composites, a reshaped nose and fuselage and different equipment. The powerplant is a single General Electric F110 turbofan engine built under license in Japan. The F-2A version is single-seat, the F-2B two-seat. Machines with serial numbers from the beginning of the run stayed with the test unit, which serves to evaluate armament and equipment; its aircraft tend to be interesting precisely for their prominent test markings.
Fit out and finish the cockpit before you close the fuselage, and dry-fit the parts. Glue with thin cement for plastic, sand the seams back and re-engrave any panel lines that have disappeared. Apply a primer before painting. The Japanese naval camouflage of the F-2 is built on two blue-gray tones with a sharp dividing edge — masking tape or putty pays off here, and a soft transition is out of place. Go over the surface with a gloss clear coat before the decals, so that no silvered edges form under them, and even the surface out at the end with a satin clear coat.
