A resin part replacing the exhaust section of the engine nacelles on a model of the F-15 fighter in 1:48 scale. The petals of the nozzle are rendered in the drawn-in, closed position. The designation I in the name tells the set from the basic configuration, which the manufacturer offers separately. It is an accessory to a model, not a kit of the aircraft.
The drawn-in position of the petals gives the tail of a model a tighter shape and suits an aircraft shown in flight. The practical advantage for a modeler is that with a closed nozzle the work is mainly on the outer surface, so the laborious painting of a deep duct falls away. All the more, though, does the quality of the edge tell: every remnant of a parting line or a heavy wall is noticed at once from behind.
Wash the set, cut the casting block off and true the mating surface on abrasive paper laid flat. Check the fit dry; with resin it pays to sand the nacelle rather than the nozzle, because the latter has a thin wall. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). When painting, work from the lightest metallic shade to the darker ones, tell the individual sections of the petals apart by a fine difference of tone and then bring the joints out with a thin wash. Suggest the residues of exhaust gases around the edge with pigment applied dry, as sprayed black paint would fill the texture. Glue the nozzles on only once the painting of the whole tail is finished, as they have a small mating surface and come loose easily while masking.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and unassembled. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
