This item is neither a kit nor decals, but a set of masking templates. The masks are cut from self-adhesive film and are applied to the glazing and to other places on the model that are to stay clean after spraying. The set is made in 1:48 scale for the night fighter version of the Messerschmitt Bf 110 E. It is made by Eduard, a Czech manufacturer from Obrnice near Most, which is among the leading suppliers of modeling accessories in the world. The exact contents of the sheet and the number of individual masks can be found on the packaging.
The glazed cockpit of the Bf 110 has a large area and many frames, so cutting strips of adhesive tape by hand takes hours, and one slip of the knife means a crooked line in the most visible place on the model. Pre-cut masks follow the shape of the frames exactly, hold on curved surfaces and leave no adhesive residue when removed. The result is a sharp edge between glass and frame and a legible cockpit structure, which shows a great deal on a twin-engine machine with a long canopy.
First rid the glazing of grease and let it dry completely. Lift the mask off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers, lay it in the middle of the panel and press it out from the center toward the edges so that no bubble is left anywhere. Run a toothpick along the edges. Spray the interior shade of the frames first, then the top color, always in thin coats so that the paint does not creep under. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried, not after several days, otherwise the adhesive sets and it comes away less easily. Cover the areas the masks do not reach with liquid mask or narrow tape.
