The basic grade of a masking set in 1:48 scale from New Ware. This is neither a kit nor a model of the helicopter but an accessory for painting. The templates are cut from Japanese kabuki paper, that is, from thin washi paper with a gentle adhesive, which adapts readily to rounded surfaces and leaves no residue behind when removed. The BASIC grade is the smallest of those offered, and the manufacturer also has the more extensive EXPERT grade for the same type.
The Mi-24 is a heavy attack helicopter that, besides weapon pylons on its stub wings, also carries a cargo compartment for carrying people, which is an unusual combination among attack machines. The P version is told from the earlier forms by its armament: instead of a trainable turret under the nose it has a fixed cannon on the right side of the forward fuselage. Characteristic of the whole type is the stepped tandem cockpit with heavily divided glazing and bulged transparencies, which makes masking a slow job.
Degrease the surface before applying the masks and let it dry. Lift the masks with tweezers, seat them and press the edge down with a toothpick, so that paint does not run underneath. Mask the convex windows gradually and lay the paper down from the center toward the edges. Spray several thin coats. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried and pull it at an angle across the edge.
This is an accessory for painting, not a kit. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package. Check before you buy that the set matches the kit you want to use it on.
