MiG-25PU, set of ladders and chocks, 1:48, LP Models

This is a resin accessory, not an aircraft kit. The set contains boarding ladders for the two-seat MiG-25PU and wheel chocks in 1:48 scale. The combination of the two is meant to keep a model from standing alone on its base and to make it look like an aircraft parked on the flight line in ordinary service condition.

What the set is for

The MiG-25 is a tall aircraft and getting into the cockpit without a ladder is impossible; on the two-seat PU trainer version a second station is added on top of that. A model with a ladder in place therefore gains scale and a legible story at once, even without an extensive diorama. The wheel chocks round out the usual picture of a parked machine and at the same time conveniently hide the point where the tires meet the base. The set can also be used to bring a display case with a finished model to life.

Building and painting tips

First wash the resin parts in warm soapy water so that the mold release residue comes off, otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter, never snap them, and sand the surface with your airways protected, because resin dust must not be inhaled. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for plastic does not work. Lay down a primer before painting. Ladders usually come out well with a deep base, a fine wash into the structure and light rubs on the steps; chocks only need a flat finish and dust pigment at ground level.
