Toro Model 1:48, military ranks and unit insignia, Polish forces 1940 to 1946 is a set of waterslide decals for marking both figures and equipment.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal set from the Polish maker Toro Model devoted to the rank and unit markings of the Polish armed forces in the years 1940 to 1946. The contents are waterslide decals in 1:48 scale. It is neither a model nor a kit; the set serves to complete finished figures and equipment, which have to be obtained separately. Among the maker's products it is one of the more extensive items, because the rank system covers the whole range of markings at once.
Rank markings and unit insignia are among the details that are very hard to paint by hand in a small scale, being patches a millimeter across with sharp shapes and exact colors. A decal solves that problem: the motif is printed precisely, so even a small insignia on a sleeve or on a vehicle fender stays readable. The set suits figures, where the ranks go on the uniform, as well as equipment, where unit insignia complete the ordinary identification markings. The sheet is enough for several builds.
On a figure, keep the area where the decal will go smooth and slightly glossy; on a rough matte surface the motif will not draw down. Cut the decal out as close as possible, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and move it into place with a damp brush. Blot off the excess water and use a decal softener so that the motif yields to the folds of the cloth or the shape of the sleeve. On equipment proceed the same way, only with a gloss varnish as the surface. Once it is dry, flatten the whole surface so that the decal blends with the surrounding paint and no edge of the carrier film shows.
The set holds only decals. Figures, a model, paints and varnish are not included in the package.
