This item is not an aircraft kit but an accessory set. It contains a Japanese radial engine cast in resin in 1:48 scale, made with the type 3 exhaust. The manufacturer offers the same engine in several forms that differ precisely in the solution of the exhaust; choose according to the particular subject you are building.
The Kotobuki was a range of air-cooled radial engines from the Nakajima company; in the Japanese system of marking it appears under the designation Ha-1. The engines came from a British design built under license and powered Japanese aircraft of the first half of the 1930s. The arrangement of the exhaust differed between individual types of aircraft and their versions, which is why several variants of the engine section exist that look similar at first glance but part company in the detail.
Before any work, wash the parts in warm soapy water: mold release residue from the mold is the most common reason why paint does not hold on resin. Cut the casting blocks off with a thin saw, finish them wet and use respiratory protection. Make the joints with cyanoacrylate. We recommend finishing the engine separately, off the fuselage: primer, a dark metallic base, the cylinder heads set apart, a dry brush on the edges of the finning and finally a wash. Paint the exhaust piping separately and unevenly, so that it looks heat-stressed. Always try the fit into the fuselage dry.
This is an accessory set, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
