A decal sheet for a model of the Polikarpov I-153 biplane in 1:48 scale, concentrating on machines captured and used by the Finnish Air Force.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Polikarpov I-153 was a Soviet fighter biplane of the late 1930s. You can recognize it by the upper wing cranked into a gull wing shape and by its retractable landing gear, which was an unusual combination on a biplane. It was powered by a piston radial engine. Machines of this type also fell into the hands of the Finnish Air Force, which went on using them in the fighting against the Soviet Union and marked them with its own national insignia. Aircraft like these are rewarding in a modeler's display case precisely because they differ in color from the Soviet original.
The decal set is listed for 1:48 scale and for Finnish machines of the I-153 type. The list of the particular aircraft, their insignia and any technical lettering is given by the manufacturer in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
Cut the motif out as closely as possible and soak it in lukewarm water until it starts to release from the backing. Coat the surface with gloss varnish beforehand; on a flat surface air gets trapped under the decal and a light frame is left around the motif. Slide the decal into place with a brush, squeeze the water out with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges and let it dry thoroughly. On a biplane, work on the insignia on the upper wing before you fit the struts and the rigging, otherwise you will not be able to reach the surface.
This is a separate decal sheet for building a model. Paints, varnishes and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
